What Is Microneedling And What Can It Do For You?

Hello and welcome back to my blog! (Yes, I am that person now and I have fully embraced it). I want to chat quickly about my all time favourite treatment, microneedling! More specifically, I want to address how microneedling can benefit you and why it may just be the best thing you can do for your skin, treatment wise.

So, I am totally aware that the term "microneedling" sounds slightly terrifying. I so wish that it could have been named something soft and trendy but instead it sounds like a death wish. Regardless of the fears you may hold around this treatment, I can assure you that it is minimally invasive and completely comfortable to sit through. The skin is numbed beforehand to lessen the sensation. Of course, it's no cold roller massage but the outcome definitely outweighs any short term discomfort you may feel.

In regard to downtime, you will leave the appointment looking sunburnt and slightly crazy. Don't worry, this subsides very quickly and you look much better by the next morning. By the third day you should be pretty much back to normal; although, the skin may be more dry as it goes through the healing process. Externally your skin heals incredibly quickly but internally the rebuild will take time, as it should, we don't want quick fixes here! We want lasting and real change, which ultimately is a process.

The real question then is, why on earth would we choose to do this to ourselves? What benefits are we getting out of this treatment? The purpose of microneedling is to stimulate the bodies wound healing response by creating tiny and microscopic controlled micro-channels in the skin. In doing this, the skin is stimulated to produce collagen, elastin, and an increase in cell turnover.

The triggering of the bodies wound healing response is an amazing thing. For those who struggle with acne scarring, fine lines/wrinkles, pigmentation, pore size, laxity, dullness, etc., microneedling could be a life changer for you! The results I have seen both in clinic and on myself personally are truly outstanding. The change created in the skin is phenomenal for anti aging and overall skin health. What more can you ask for!

Something to note is that using the proper at home regime is crucial when it comes microneedling. There is no sense going in to create change in the skin if it is not maintained and cared for with proper home care. This can be so vital when it comes to getting incredible results. It is important to be feeding the skin daily with the vitamins and antioxidants it needs to get the best outcome possible.

To finish, I would like to say that microneedling is a treatment that almost everyone can benefit from. That being said, if you are currently suffering from active acne, it is best that we deal with that first and then move onto microneedling once the acne is settled. Addressing acne scars with microneedling can be incredibly effective.

I hope that this post has helped you understand some of the incredible benefits of microneedling. If you have been thinking about getting microneedling done but still have some questions, please reach out to me! I am pretty sure I could talk about this treatment all day long!

X,

Sarah
